Vikings Coin Series
Viking lore has been popular around the world for centuries and has seen a resurgence in recent years with various movies and television shows. This coin series is celebrating some of the most iconic beings of Viking legend and showcases the god Odin, King Cnut and Ragnar the warrior.
Each coin is housed in a wooden display box with an engraved lid unique to each character. Odin's display box has an engraving of the Triple Horn of Odin, King Cnut has a small cross quatrefoil engraved on his box and Ragnar's has an engraving of a valknut, representing the slain warrior.
Landing Page
The landing page showcases each coin with its own extended artwork and biography. The coins are displayed in a 3 dimensional view created from PNG sequences, and easily rotated by moving your cursor (or finger on a mobile device) over the coin. The colors and symbols used also have ties to old Norse culture. I illustrated each character and animated them to reflect the folklore behind each vikings' history.
Character Development
Multiple writings talk about Odin's power of raising the dead, so I decided to depict him conjuring up dark energy. Odin is the god, king and ruler of Asgard, home of the gods and Valhalla. King Cnut was a king who even tho was a viking, lead his people with noble intentions. I show him in a proud stance with the northern lights shining on his face. Ragnar has a reputation of being a relentless warrior slaying any who stand in his way. I thought Ragnar charging with his weapon was a suitable depiction of him.
